Getting tested could save your life
Mammography is the most important screening tool for breast cancer available today.
Women over age 40 should have a mammogram screening every one or two years even if they don't have lumps or other symptoms.
According to the American Cancer Society:
- In 2008, about 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed.
- In 2008, about 40,930 women will die from breast cancer.
- White women have a higher incidence of breast cancer than African American women. However, African American women have a higher incidence rate before the age of 40 and are more likely to die from breast cancer.
If you haven't already done so, talk to your doctor about when and how often you should have a mammogram.
