How is Shopping for Bananas like Shopping for Health Care?
Imagine you are at the grocery store. You ask one of the grocery store clerks, "How much more are these organic bananas than the regular bananas?" Mr. Grocery Store Clerk replies, "I'm not sure. You'll just be billed for the difference later."
Confused by this response, you decide to bring both types of bananas - organic and regular - to the checkout stand with you and the rest of your groceries. The cashier begins to scan your items. You notice none of the prices are displayed.
Again you ask, "How much do these items cost?" The cashier isn't sure - after all, that isn't how this grocery store operates. You are just billed for the items later.
Sound ridiculous? Amazingly, that is just how our health care system operates.
