For 2009 Contract Renewal, PEBB members will be able to receive barrier free coverage ($0 copay) for generic ACE inhibitors, generic beta blockers, generic statins, generic diabetes medications, and generic antidepressant medications.
Regence supports barrier free coverage of the medications in these categories because of strong evidence and proven benefit of improving long-term health outcomes. These benefits include the following:
- Decreased heart attack and stroke (with rigorous management of blood pressure and lipids).
- Prevention of diabetic kidney disease (potentially slowed by controlling blood pressure and blood glucose).
- Reduction in diabetes-related complications (eye disease, circulatory complications in the extremities and vital organs, such as
the heart).
- Improved signs/symptoms of depression and preventing relapse.
The following is partial listing of the most popular generics available under these medication categories.
Generics are capitalized.
Non-preferred/non-formulary brands are listed only as a reference in parentheses for generically available medications.
This list is subject to change.
New generics may become available. In rare instances, a generic may no longer be manufactured or withdrawn from the market for various reasons. (i.e. safety reasons, manufacturer patent litigations, etc.). While market withdrawal of a generic is very rare, please note that the medication would no longer be available at a waived ($0) copay.
