Since 2003, Regence has offered its Health Coach Program that features one-on-one relationships between members and health coaches at Regence Behavior Health and Wellness.
"We work with members to really customize our services to support their unique health and wellness goals," explained Lori Wilson, Regence health coach and supervisor of the Regence Health Coach Program.
"One person may want to lose weight and get more exercise while another is looking for ways to reduce cholesterol levels or high blood pressure. One of my clients worked next to a candy store and wanted to cut back on the amount of candy she ate each week," said Wilson. "Another client came to me looking for effective ways to add more fruit and vegetables to his diet."
Health coaches help Regence members identify their individual health objectives and set measurable and attainable goals. And since we all sometimes need an extra boost to make lasting, healthy lifestyle changes, Regence Health Coaches are available to encourage members on their individual journeys toward reaching specific goals. This program is available to individuals who are not eligible for Medicare and are enrolled in an Health Savings Account (HSA) Plan.
"We not only act as personal cheerleaders who help you stay motivated," explained Wilson. "Coaches provide information about how to successfully integrate wellness into your day-to-day life-helping our members understand how healthy lifestyle choices and changes can impact and improve their overall health and resilience."
There are currently 15 health coaches within Regence. All have various backgrounds and training. Their specializations allow Regence to match members with a coach who has the most experience with their particular health goals.
"If you're trying to lose weight or stop smoking, it makes a big difference when you have an individual you can call who has been through a similar experience and can understand your struggles," stated Wilson. "You don't feel so all alone, and you also have someone you start to feel accountable to. Our ultimate goal, though, is to help our members become accountable for their own well being."
"If you consider the many thousands of individuals we've worked with, I truly believe the common thread is their personal resilience," said Rod Hart. "They have marshaled the courage and passion to change their lives—in some cases quite dramatically. And while some things can be done alone by an individual, most things require the structure and support of a partnership, which can be uniquely provided by a health coach."
Regence Health Coach is not insurance but is offered in addition to your medical plan to help you get information and support when you need it.
