Diabetes supply coverage changes for your employees

October 1, 2025

We know diabetes supplies are an important part of managing conditions. Periodically, we review our products and services to ensure that we continue to provide the best experience for our members at the lowest overall cost.

Effective Jan. 1, 2026, Regence will transition diabetes supply coverage from LifeScan to Abbott and Ascencia as preferred manufacturers.

What this means for your employees

Members who currently use LifeScan OneTouch meters, test strips and lancets through retail or home delivery pharmacies will need to switch to Abbott or Ascencia products to maintain coverage for their diabetes supplies. This change does not affect members who receive LifeScan products through durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers.

What you need to know:

  • Members must obtain new prescriptions for Abbott or Ascencia products to continue receiving coverage for their diabetes supplies.
  • In most cases, health care providers can call in these prescription changes directly to pharmacies without requiring office visits.
  • Abbott and Ascencia blood glucose meters work the same way as LifeScan products.
  • Member cost shares remain the same with these new suppliers.
  • Members will receive manufacturer coupon codes that they can take with them to the pharmacy when picking up their new blood glucose monitor to receive it at no cost.
  • Existing LifeScan supplies can be used until they run out.

How this is being communicated

Prime, our pharmacy benefit manager, is sending direct notification letters to affected members with detailed transition information, covered product lists and manufacturer coupon codes. We've also informed contracted pharmacies and health care providers about this change.
