Encourage Medicare members to participate in CAHPS surveys

March 29, 2022

As part of its efforts to improve health care in the U.S., the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires health plans to conduct member experience surveys each year. Known as the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems (CAHPS) survey, the purpose is to evaluate members’ experiences across a broad range of interactions with the health plan and its participating providers. Our certified vendor began distributing this year’s CAHPS surveys to a large sample of our Medicare members in March.

Survey participation is important to CMS, Regence and our members. Members selected to participate in this year’s survey will receive a pre-notification letter, two rounds of mail surveys and a follow-up phone call to those who do not respond to the mailed surveys. If any of your clients inquire about a CAHPS survey, please encourage them to fill it out and return it in the postage-paid envelope provided.

In addition to improving health care in the U.S., CAHPS survey results can have an increasingly significant impact on our Medicare Star rating.

If you have any questions about CAHPS surveys, please contact your Medicare sales executive.
